It is with a very heavy heart and great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Hazel Rickaby.

Dear Members

It is with a very heavy heart and great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Hazel yesterday, surrounded by her loving family.

Hazel's passing comes as such a shock, following a very short illness, Cancer has claimed the life of a wonderful lady and we have been truly honoured to have Hazel as part of the SCC family for decades.

Hazel was known to many and loved by all. Her roles within the club were varied and she dedicated hours of her life to SCC, having been involved with the club since 1966.

Her roles included Tea Lady, Fixtures Secretary, Committee Member, 1st Team Scorer (no matter what the weather) and latterly Minutes Secretary and an all round supporter of SCC.

Hazel was also instrumental in organsising club cricket tours to the Isle of Wight in 1988 and Northumberland in 1989.

In 2016 Hazel had the honour of being inducted into the York Senior League Hall of Fame, in recognition of her 28 years as Secretary and extensive period of service as a scorer, tea lady and worker at Selby CC - the write-up accompanying the award describes her as a Club Stalwart and there can be no disagreement with this.

Hazel retired as Scorer in 2022 and was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at last years SCC annual presentation dinner.

Hazel will be missed by many having forged friendships with fellow volunteers, club supporters and players throughout the decades.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peter, Sally and Rachel.

Rachel has asked that I let you know that Hazel's funeral will be held on Monday 6th November 2023, 11am at Brayton Church. Following the service people are welcome to join the family at Selby Rugby Club for a "Cricket Tea" which was Hazel's wish.

Hazel's request was for no flowers but if anyone would like to donate to Cancer Research UK then the link is copied below.
