Selby first team’s winning run came to an end on Saturday when they went down to a four wicket defeat to Goole in a high scoring game at Sandhill Lane which featured another century for Corey Paull.

Selby skipper Alex Bowden won the toss and decided to bat first on a good looking track but they lost a wicket in the second over when Lucas Matthews bowled Matt Hoyle. Corey Paull joined Alex Bowden at the crease and they gradually got on top of the bowling with some stylish batting and they added 115 for the second wicket. Spinner Gihan Koralage ended the partnership when he had Bowden (55) caught behind by Ben Earl and Ben Lamb took a quick wicket to leave the home side on 122-3 in the 27th over. Kayden Lane then gave Corey Paull excellent support and a 70 run partnership for the fourth wicket put Selby in a good position but Gihan Koralage (2-52) made the breakthrough when he bowled Lane (34) in the 39th over. Paull continued to bat well and there was useful support from Tom Shepherd (11) but Lucas Matthews finished with 4-79 which saw Selby close on 260-8 with Corey Paull hitting 8 fours and a six in his unbeaten 119.

The visitors made a steady start to their reply but with the score on 29 spinner Subodha Premarathne ended the opening partnership when he bowled Ben Earl (15). Harry Pierce was run out for 30 after some good fielding from Jack Huddlestone and Scott Thorpe chipped in with 13 until Jamie Middleton had him stumped by Darrell Guy which reduced Goole to 92-3 in the 21st over. Ashton Nottingham joined Gihan Koralage and they both batted stylishly to add 88 for the fourth wicket in quick time. Selby fought back when Premarathne (3-60) had Nottingham (54) stumped by Guy and Tom Shepherd joined the attack to have Gihan Koralage neatly caught by Matt Hoyle for 75, which included 8 fours and a six. Skipper Matty Cooper (18) kept the scoreboard ticking over until he became another stumping victim for Guy but Oscar Sugden (34*) and Lucas Matthews (13*) calmly steered Goole home in the 49th over. Selby second team’s revival in Division Two continued when a good all round team performance earned them a three wicket win at Leeds side Thorner Mexborough.

Skipper Graham Phillips won the toss and asked the home side to bat first and they made a good start with an opening partnership of 57 between Kunal Parbal and Charles Harford - Cross. Sam Dunn (2-44) made the vital breakthrough when he had Harford-Cross (24) caught behind by Gareth Harvey and he later bowled Parbal (32) as wickets began to fall. Alex Langhan caught and bowled Thorner skipper David Clark and Stan Bugg (3-23) removed the middle order as the visitors began to get on top. Gullab Sher (31) provided some resistance until Graham Phillips (2-10) had him caught by Mike Lane and Nathan Dye (2-8) picked up a couple of wickets as Thorner were bowled out for 159 in the 38th over.

In reply Selby also made a solid start with an opening partnership of 35 between Graham Phillips and Mike Lane (17) with Phillips going to hit 5 fours and a six in his 34. Gareth Pearce (19) and Chris Harkin (29) kept the innings on track but a spell of 6-32 from Anjum Sabir kept Thorner in the game as the visitors slipped to 123-7. Selby third team’s revival in Division Four came to an end on Saturday when they went down to a five wicket defeat at Pocklington III despite an unbeaten century from Alfie Harper.

Batting first after winning the toss Selby made a bad start with Lucas Tanikal removing openers Steve Sherwood and Isaac Leung with only 18 runs on the board. The innings was then dominated by Alfie Harper who batted well from the start but he did receive solid support from Alex Hornostaj (10), Ian Stamper (17), Bilal Irshad (12) and Spencer Guy (23*). Harper finished unbeaten on an impressive 109, which included 13 fours and a six and he enabled the visitors to close on 196-6 from their 40 overs.

In reply Pocklington lost an early wicket when Toby Settle had Readman caught by Alex Hornostaj but they quickly recovered with Joe Wilson and Wes Smith adding 101 for the second wicket. Isaac Leung (2-26) ended the big partnership when he caught and bowled Wilson (25) and Spencer Guy later had Smith caught for 71. James Foley (27) kept the runs flowing before Bilal Irshad had him caught by Hornostaj. Lucas Tanikal then fired a quick unbeaten 34 to steer Pocklington home in the 38th over. It was a tough afternoon for Selby fourth team on Sunday when they went down to ten wicket defeat at home to Osbaldwick III.

Batting first after winning the toss Selby made a disastrous start as they crashed to 14-4 with Sammy Linfoot-King (2-20) and Joseph Dale (4-26) doing the early damage. There was a recovery with Spencer Guy (10), Sam Easthill (16) and Alfie Laverack (15) all batting well. Dylan Davies (26) and Dan Catterall (18) continued the recovery with a ninth wicket partnership of 54 but the home side were bowled out for 126 in the 27th over.

The York side were soon scoring quickly when they replied with the Selby bowlers and fielders having to work hard but they were unable to make a breakthrough.
