Selby first team were involved in another high scoring game on Saturday at Sandhill Lane but they went down to a three wicket defeat to Heworth in an entertaining game which featured two centuries and a hat trick.

Skipper Alex Bowden once again won the toss and decided to bat first but they made a bad start with early wickets for Aussie quick bowler Harry Hauenstein (4-50) reducing them to 33-3 in the 15th over. Opener Layton Hallam held the early part of the innings together and he was joined by Alex Bowden and they added 57 for the fourth wicket before spinner Will Peet had Hallam caught for 34. The innings then revolved around Bowden who had good support from Charlie Baird (15), Lee Wild (13) and Glen Crouch (15). Bowden finished unbeaten on a vital 115, which included 8 fours and 4 sixes as Selby closed on a useful 239-8 from their 50 overs.

In reply the York side were soon scoring quickly but with the total on 21 Glen Crouch had Amod Karunaratne caught behind by Corey Paull. Jamie Middleton then had Joe Biggs (12) brilliantly caught by Bowden to reduce Heworth to 39-2 but Tom Young joined Harry Hauenstein at the crease and they put the visitors on top with a third wicket partnership of 93. Left arm spinner Subhoda Premarathne made the vital breakthrough when he bowled the dangerous Hauenstein (45) in the 18th over but Tom Young continued to bat powerfully. Premarathne did grab another wicket when he dismissed Jack Wilkinson but Heworth skipper Dan Walton joined Young and they looked to have guaranteed a comfortable win for the visitors when they added 86 for the fifth wicket. Jack Huddlestone (3-16) joined the attack and in a dramatic 42nd over he had Young caught by Rob Scarr for 122 and with his next ball he trapped Rich Walton leg before and he completed the hat trick when he bowled Oliver Foster with his next ball which left Heworth wobbling on 227-7. Dan Walton (28*) and Rhys Hughes (5*) then survived the pressure to steer Heworth home in the 45th over which lifts them to the top of the table. Selby did pick up a couple of bowling points which moves them up to fifth in the table. Hundhill Hall 255 all out Selby II 207 all out

Selby second team travelled to league newcomers Hundhill Hall on Saturday but went down to a 48 run defeat after being set a big total to chase.

Batting first the early part of the home side’s innings revolved around opener Matthew Edwards who hit 12 boundaries in his 62 before he was bowled by Nathan Dye. A good spell from Rhys Roddick 4- 44 kept the run rate down but Hussain smashed a quick 65 to put Hundhill Hall on top and late runs were added by Luke Earnshaw (41) as the home side were bowled out for 255 in the last of their 45 overs with Nathan Dye finishing with 4-71.

Chasing the big total Selby lost opener Graham Phillips in the fourth over but Harry Huddlestone and Joe Bugg added 38 for the second wicket before Reuben Crompton bowled Bugg (28). Hussain (3-45) then bowled Huddlestone (10) as the visitors slipped to 55-3. Selby recovered well thanks to Gareth Pearce and Alfie Harper who added 60 for the fourth wicket before Hussain struck again to bowl Harper (18) which sparked a middle order collapse including Pearce who hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in his 38. Skipper Darrell Guy kept Selby in the game with a rapid 46 and there was good support from George Wells (17) and Rhys Roddick (15*) but a spell of 3-24 from Charlie Mulhall saw the visitors bowled out for 207 which did earn them a couple of batting points. Yorkshire Premier League North Division Four Ebor

Selby III 242-9, Scholes II 75 all out

A much improved batting and bowling performance from Selby third team saw them end their losing run with a massive 167 run victory over Scholes II at Sandhill Lane.

Batting first Selby were soon scoring quickly although they did lose skipper Isaac Leung (13) with the total on 27 when he was bowled by Adam Tumber. Steve Sherwood (36), Sam Mason (52), Martyn Rhodes (17) and Chris Harkin (36) all kept the runs flowing as the visitors used eight different bowlers. Gareth Harvey (32), Dan Catterall (11) and Darren Hunter (10) kept Selby in control and they closed on a massive 242-9 from their 40 overs.

The Leeds side were soon in trouble when they replied when Martyn Rhodes (3-21) removed both openers. Darren Hunter kept up the pressure with a spell of 4-27 from his 10 overs as the visitor's innings never got going. Skipper Adam Tumber (18*) did provide some brief resistance but spinner Spencer Guy (2-17) wrapped up the game in the 27th over as Scholes were bowled out for 75. Local rivals Burn II are the visitors to Sandhill Lane on Saturday.

Sunday Vale Division One

Heworth IV 174 all out, Selby IV 119 all out

It was another tough afternoon for Selby fourth team on Sunday when they went down to a 48 run defeat to Heworth IV at Sandhill Lane.

Batting first the visitors made steady progress with all their early batsmen making useful contributions. Skipper Graham Duffield top scored with 28 but Iwan White (2-15) and Alfie Harper (2-21) both bowled tightly. Dylan Davies finished with 4-41 but late runs from Reagan Smallwood (21), Matthew Rennie (11) and Kavija Ukwathta (13) lifted the York side to 174 all out in the 38th over.

In reply Selby lost a wicket in the first over but James Stead and Alex Hornostaj then added 32 for the second wicket. Matthew Rennie (2-45) dismissed Stead (23) and Hornostaj (12) and Iwan White (15) and Rory Davies (10) both made good starts but wickets began to fall. Sam Easthill (23), Seth Wratten (10) and Dan Catterall (10) all worked hard to keep Selby in the game but good spells from Kavija Ukwaththa (3-21) and Ben Ash-McMahon (3-26) saw the home side slip to 119 all out in the 32nd over.
