Selby I 195 all out Heworth I 199-4

Selby first team’s winning run came to an end on Saturday when they went down to a six wicket defeat at Heworth but it was a battling performance with the York side having to work hard to pick up the win.

Skipper Matt Hoyle won the toss and decided to bat first but they made a bad start with opener Jack Huddlestone bowled by pace bowler Alex Bell in the first over. Graham Knott dismissed Matt Hoyle and wickets for Dan Walton (3-29) and Harry Hauenstein reduced Selby to 35-4 and an early finish loomed. Aussie Corey Paull and Kayden Lane steadied things and began to get on top of the bowling with some impressive batting. A fifth wicket partnership of 138 ensured a competitive total for the visitors which was ended by Walton when he had Paull caught for a stylish 86, which included 8 fours and a huge six. Lane fired 10 boundaries in his impressive knock of 81 before he was dismissed by Hauenstein (4-42) which sparked a late flurry of wickets as Selby were bowled out in the last over for 195.

In reply Heworth openers Dan Walton and Amod Karunaratne had to work hard against tight bowling from Jamie Middleton and Stan Bugg but they were unable to make a breakthrough. An opening partnership of 76 was ended by Lee Wild when he had Karunaratne (24) caught by Jack Huddlestone in the 28th over. Harry Hauenstein joined Walton and he gradually increased the run rate as they added 88 for the second wicket before Jack Huddlestone bowled Walton (63) and shortly after he had Hauenstein (61) caught behind by Corey Paull as Selby fought back. Stan Bugg also grabbed a wicket thanks to a great catch from Kayden Lane to set up a tight finish. Jack Wilkinson (17*) eventually steered the York side home in the 49th over, Thanks go to match ball sponsor Alison & Neil Romaniw and Selby are at home to Osbaldwick on Saturday.

Yorkshire Premier League North Division Two Ebor

Hundhill Hall 141 all out, Selby II 145-2

Selby second team continued their recovery in Division Two with a comfortable eight wicket win against league newcomers Hundhill Hall at Sandhill Lane.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first but they lost an early wicket when Alfie Harper (2-26) had Matthew Ramsden caught by Michael Lane. Hundhill Hall recovered well thanks to Richard Earnshaw and Joshua Hurcomb and they added 47 for the second wicket before Nathan Dye (3-51) made the breakthrough when he bowled Hurcomb (31) which sparked a middle order collapse. Earnshaw (40) was eventually dismissed by Spencer Guy when he was stumped by father Darrell Guy as wickets began to tumble. Spencer Guy finished with the fine figures of 3-23 and despite a defiant unbeaten 38 from Sam Malyan the visitors were bowled out for 141 in the 38th over.

Selby openers Graham Phillips and Gareth Pearce were soon scoring quickly and an opening partnership of 99 virtually guaranteed a home win. Pearce fired 9 fours and a six in his rapid 53 before he was bowled by Sam Malyan who also took another quick wicket. Mike Lane (18*) supported Phillips who finished unbeaten on 52 as Selby reached the victory target in the 30th over. Selby III 132 all out, Scholes II 133-5

Selby third team travelled to Leeds side Scholes II on Saturday but they went down to a five wicket defeat.

Batting first the early part of the innings revolved around Iain Stamper who had good support from James Thackray and Sam Mason (10) but after Stamper (27) was dismissed by Muhammed Munir Scholes began to get on top. Alex Hornostaj (18) and Alfie Laverack (26) both worked hard and late runs were added by Gareth Harvey (26) as Selby were bowled out for 132 in the 39th over.

In reply the home side lost a couple of early wickets to Alfie Laverack (3-45) as they were quickly reduced to 9-2. Adam Tumber batted solidly for his 20 and he was supported by James Biscombe (17). Wickets for Toby Settle and Isaac Leung kept Selby in the game but Paul Kollesoff (23) and Zac Kollesoff (31*) steered Scholes home in the 25th over. Selby I 188-7 Dunnington I 189-4

Selby first team were in action on Monday and despite another good batting performance, which included a century for Corey Paull, they went down to a six wicket defeat to league leaders Dunnington at Sandhill Lane.

Skipper Matt Hoyle again won the toss and decided to bat first on a good looking track and they lost an early wicket but Matt Hoyle and Corey Paull both batted well against some accurate bowling. A second wicket partnership of 112 was eventually ended by Cam Hall when he had Hoyle caught behind for a solid 52. The rest of the innings revolved around Corey Paull who stroked 7 boundaries and reached his century with a six as he finished unbeaten on 104 and he enabled Selby to close on a useful 188-7.

In reply Dunnington also lost an early wicket when Jamie Middleton had Jack Bolam caught by Jack Huddlestone. Irosh Samarasooriya joined Joe Brittain and they were soon scoring quickly and they added 74 for the second wicket before Glen Crouch bowled Brittain (41) in the 19th over. Sri Lankan Samarasooriya then dominated the innings and he went on to punish any loose bowling as he blasted 13 fours and 4 sixes to finish unbeaten on 97 as Dunnington reached the victory target in the 32nd over.

Fairburn II II 281-5, Selby II 147 all out

Selby second team’s recent revival in Division Two came to an end on Monday when they went down to a 134 run defeat at Fairburn II after being set a massive total to chase.

The home side won the toss and batted first on a very hot day and made a good start with Harry Way (42) and Ali Solway (40) putting on 87 for the first wicket. Spinner Alex Langhan (3-47) dismissed both openers and a wicket for Mike Lane reduced Fairburn to 94-4, but Matthew Stones and William Jones then took control. A fifth wicket partnership of 112 took the game away from Selby despite Nathan Dye removing Jones (43). Stones went on to finish unbeaten on 101 as the home side closed on an imposing 281-5 from their 45 overs.

Chasing the big total Selby lost early wickets but Harry Huddlestone (40) held the innings together and with good support from Alfie Laverack (22) they kept the visitors in the game. Wickets for Simon Abdy (2-20) and Sam Spragg (3-20) ended Selby’s challenge but there was some late resistance from Sam Easthill (23) and Sam Dunn (11) as they were bowled out for 147 in the 34th over.

Yorkshire Premier League North Division Four Ebor

Selby III 189-7, Thorner Mexborough II 192-6

The third team were involved in a high scoring game on Monday but they went down to a four wicket defeat to Thorner II at Sandhill Lane.

Batting first Selby batted steadily from the start with the early batsmen making healthy contributions including Steve Sherwood (62), Martyn Rhodes (11) and James Thackray (15). Alex Hornostaj (46) again batted well and useful contributions from Chris Harkin (17) and Richard Mustill (15*) lifted the home side to 189-7 from their 40 overs.

Early wickets for Martyn Rhodes (3-35) put Selby in a good position but Shabir Ahmed did hold the innings together with a solid 42. Wickets for Mark Redshaw, Spencer Guy and Alex Hornostaj saw the Leeds side struggle to 119-6 but Mehrban Ali (30*) and Muhammed Usman (34*) then steered the visitors home in the 35th over.
