Yorkshire Premier League North Championship West

Selby I 133, Osbaldwick 135-6

Selby first team continue to find life challenging in the Championship when they went down to a four wicket defeat to Osbaldwick at Sandhill Lane.

Skipper Alex Bowden won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot afternoon and they made a decent start with Rob Scarr hitting 5 fours in a brisk 21 before he was bowled by Alfie Oliver in the fourth over. The rest of the Selby innings revolved around opener Alex Bowden but wickets fell at the other end with Alfie Oliver taking 3-25 from his 13 overs. Bowden’s vital innings was eventually ended in the 31st over by James Peart (3-23) when he was caught behind by Ryan Truswell for 56, which included 6 fours and 2 sixes. Harvey Jackson kept up the pressure as he took 3-24 to mop up the tail as the home side were bowled out in the 44th over for a below par 133.

Defending the small total there was a much improved bowling and fielding performance from the Selby side and there was an early wicket for Jamie Middleton when he had James Peart caught by Bowden in the fifth over. Middleton (2-20) struck again to have Jack Sonter caught by Luke Berzins and when Luyanda Gasa had Stephen Peart (16) caught by Rob Scarr the York side were reduced to 31-3. Harvey Jackson (24) staged a recovery but two quick wickets for Lee Wild saw the visitors struggle to 66-5 in the 19th over. Johnny Rawsthorne and former Selby player Harvey Johnson then steadied things with a stand of 61 for the sixth wicket to put Osbaldwick back in control. Lee Wild (3-18) did eventually dismiss Rawsthorne (40) but Harvey Johnson ((30*) guided the visitors home in the 30th over. Selby did collect a couple of bowling points but the defeat sees them drop to eleventh in the table. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Streamline Taxis and Selby travel to Studley Royal on Saturday.

Yorkshire Premier League North Division Two Ebor

Scholes I 127, Selby II 131-4

In Division Two Selby second team continue to climb the table after a good all round team performance earned then a six wicket win at Scholes I.

The Leeds side won the toss and decided to bat first and they lost a wicket in the first over when Stan Bugg bowled Adil Hussain. Abdul Khan hit a rapid 24 before he became another victim for Bugg (2-24) and the innings followed a similar pattern with most batsmen making a start but good bowling and catching from the Selby side kept them on top. Loan player Toby Taperell took a couple of wickets in his five over spell, including a steepling catch off his own bowling. Nathan Dye (3-34) removed the middle order and skipper Graham Phillips (3-9) efficiently mopped up the tail with his spin bowling as the home side were bowled out in the 26th over for 127.

In reply Selby had to work hard on a lively track and they lost early wickets with Wajid Subhani (3-24) doing the damage. Graham Phillips (19) was holding the early part of the innings together but when he was bowled by Hamza Pacha the visitors were reduced to 50-4. Mike Lane and Sam Mason rescued the situation and they gradually got on top the bowling with Mason blasting 5 fours and 2 sixes in his spectacular unbeaten 36 and Lane (30*) provided solid support in a match winning fifth wicket partnership of 81. Horne and Alex Hodson both batted well to add 59 for the second wicket but skipper George Wells eventually trapped Hodson (33) leg before as Selby fought back. Ryan Dasari (40) kept the scoreboard ticking over but spinner Callum Brownlie slowed down the run rate with a good spell of 4-17. George Wells also bowled well and his spell of 4-22 saw Dunnington bowled out in the 38th over for useful 184.
