Selby I 195-9, Sheriff Hutton Bridge II 198-2
It was another tough afternoon for Selby first team on Saturday when league leaders Sheriff Hutton Bridge II visited Sandhill Lane and came away with an eight wicket win.
There was a delayed start due to rain which meant the game was reduced to 46 overs per side with Selby batting first after losing the toss. There was an eventful start when Tom Appleton (2-31) dismissed skipper Alex Bowden and Mark Hope in the first over but Rob Scarr and Joe Bugg did build a good recovery. A third wicket partnership of 55 was eventually ended by Sam Giannini when he had Scarr caught behind for 23 but the recovery continued when Charlie Baird joined Bugg to add another 36 for the fourth wicket. The introduction of left arm spinner Angad Bhabra (3-28) slowed down the run rate after he had Bugg caught for 40 and later dismissed Baird for a solid 38. Oliver Steward worked hard for his 18 and there were useful late runs from Tom Ellwood (30*) as Selby closed on 195-9.
Selby were looking for early wickets when Sheriff Hutton Bridge replied but openers Matthias Paltridge and skipper Jack Hugill were soon scoring quickly. The big scoring Paltridge dominated the opening partnership as the home side were unable to make a breakthrough. The century partnership arrived in only the 16th over as Selby shuffled the bowling attack around. Tom Shepherd eventually made a breakthrough with the total on 147 when he had Jack Hugill (58) smartly caught by Mark Hope. Paltridge looked on course for another century but Joe Bugg had him caught behind by Charlie Baird for an impressive 82, which included 10 fours and 4 sixes. Aditya Mydeo (16*) and Harry Sutcliffe (20*) kept the runs flowing as the visitors reached the victory target in the 29th over. Selby II 213-9, Pocklington II 192
In Division Two Selby second team returned to winning ways when an improved batting performance earned them a 21 run win at Pocklington II.
Batting first after winning the toss Selby openers Graham Phillips and Kayden Lane put on a solid 30 for the first wicket before Matthew Smith (2-27) dismissed Lane. Layton Hallam joined Phillips and they added 21 for the second wicket but the big hitting Phillips (32) became another victim for Smith (2-27). Hallam and Gareth Pearce then put the visitors on top with some good batting in a third wicket partnership of 72. Pearce was eventually caught for a fluent 37 but Hallam comtinued to keep the scoreboard ticking over and he had good support from Simon Tolson (17) and Darrell Guy (16). Hallam was eventually caught for a fine 77, which included 9 fours and six as Selby closed on a useful 213-9 from their 45 overs.
Pocklington also made a solid start with an opening partnership of 38 between John Fiorentini and James Foley but George Wells had Foley (12) caught by Simon Tolson and then bowled Freddie Forman. Simon Tolson eventually bowled Fiorentini (35) and when spinner Alex Langhan had Max Wilson stumped by Darrell Guy the home side were reduced to 65-4. Skipper Dan Croft (24) and Adam Tolley (26) then added 46 for the fifth wicket but two wickets for Luke Berzins (2-33) kept Selby on top. Joe Wilson hit a quick 36 to keep Pocklington in the game but more wickets for Alex Langhan (3-55) saw the home side bowled out for 192 in the 43rd over. Selby III 212-7, Church Fenton II 174
Selby third team continue to climb the Division Four table after a 38 run win at Church Fenton II.
Batting first after losing the toss Selby made a great start with Steve Sherwood and Stan Bugg putting on 58 for the first wicket. Callum Ward then had Sherwood (43) caught by Alex Wilman and Iwan White soon followed but Bugg and Neil Darley then put the visitors on top. A third wicket partnership of 71 was ended by Alex Wilman when he had Bugg caught for a stylish 33. The innings then revolved around Neil Darley,who stroked 10 boundaries in his classy 64 and there was good support from Mike Lane (21). Alex Hornostaj (26*) hit useful late runs as Selby closed on 212-7 from their 40 overs.
The Church Fenton reply was dominated by opener Stuart Bell but he had good support from Mick Dancer in an opening partnership of exactly 50. Alfie Harper made the breakthrough when he had Dancer caught by Neil Darley and wickets then began to fall at regular intervals. Oliver Baxter hit a quick 21 but wickets for Nathan Dye (4-57), Iwan White (2-19) and Neil Darley (2-25) kept Selby just on top. Stuart Bell’s great knock was eventually ended by Alfie Harper (2-43) when he was caught by Darley for 76, which included 14 boundaries, as Church Fenton were bowled out for 174 in the 38th over. Sunday Vale Division
Sheriff Hutton Bridge Vale Team 142, Selby 146-6
Selby fourth team continued their winning run on Sunday with a four wicket win over Sheriff Hutton Bridge at Sandhill Lane.
The visitors batted first and made a decent start with an opening partnership of 39 between Alexander Bell and David Powell before Alfie Laverack had Bell (31) caught by Fabio Naccari. Powell had to retire after making a solid 30 as the Bridge innings began to lose momentum against some tight bowling from Jack Hunter (2-16) and Darren Hunter (4-23). Kiran Koneti (19) and Krishna Pemmaraju (11) chipped in with useful runs but the visitors were bowled out in the 39th over for 142.
In reply Selby made a good start with an opening partnership of 32 between Jack Hunter and Joe Bugg but Zach Powell made the breakthrough when he had Hunter caught for 16. Joe Bugg retired after hitting a quick 31 and there were solid knocks from James Stead (16) and Alex Hornostaj (14). A good spell from young spinner George Bell (4-27) slowed down the run rate to keep the visitors in the game but Alfie Laverack (31*) and skipper Sam Easthill (19*) guided Selby home in the 31st over.
