Century for Alfie Harper

Yorkshire Premier League North Championship West

Selby I 166-9, Studley Royal 169-2

It was another tough afternoon in the Championship for Selby first team when they went down to an eight wicket defeat at Studley Royal.

Skipper Alex Bowden won the toss and elected to bat first and openers Matt Hoyle and Bowden gave them a good start with an opening partnership of 79. Matt Coad made the breakthrough for the home side when he had Hoyle (34) caught by Jonny Harding in the 21st over. Coad (4-47) struck again just before the drinks interval when he had Alex Bowden (41) caught behind by Sean Nicholson and spinner Dan Craven slowed down the run rate in a tight spell. Rob Scarr was again batting well but after he was trapped leg before by Craven for a solid 40 the innings began to fizzle out. Spinner Louie Wilson joined the attack to keep up the pressure and he took 3-23 in a good spell but a last wicket partnership of 23 between Rhys Roddick (11*) and Jamie Middleton (10*) enabled Selby to close on 166-9 from their 50 overs.

The Ripon based side made a quick start but with the score on 33 pace bowler Luyanda Gasa had Jonny Harding caught by Luke Berzins. Louie Wilson joined Nicholson and they added 40 for the second wicket before spinner Mark Hope had Nicholson (34) caught by Alex Bowden. Leo Wilson and Louie Wilson then took charge with some stylish batting as the Selby fielders had to work hard on Studley’s massive ground . Louie Wilson stroked 13 boundaries in his unbeaten 70 and Leo Wilson’s unbeaten 40 saw the home side comfortably reach the victory target in the 23rd over. Selby have a shorter trip on Saturday when they travel to South Milford.
