Skipper Alex Bowden won the toss and decided to bat first and there was a dramatic start when opener Layton Hallam was bowled by James Tindall with the first ball of the innings. Selby soon recovered with Bowden and Corey Paull quickly adding 48 for the second wicket before Tindall struck again when he trapped Corey Paull (11) leg before. The innings then revolved around Alex Bowden but James Tindall made run scoring difficult with a tidy spell of 4-25 from his 13 over spell and he took the vital wicket of Bowden in the 23rd over when he was bowled for 59. After the departure of Bowden runs seemed hard to come by with wickets falling on a regular basis with spinner James Bennett taking 3-20 and the experienced Acomb skipper Andy Tute taking 2-23. Lee Wild worked hard for his 27 but Selby were bowled out for a below par 153 in the 46th over.

In reply the York side made a slow start against some tight bowling from Jamie Middleton and Corey Paull. Openers Andy Tute and Curtis Holmes took the total to 32 before Corey Paull dismissed Tute (24) leg before which left Holmes to dominate the early part of the innings. Selby looked to be getting on top when Jamie Middleton (3-41) removed the middle order and spinner Subhoda Premarathne (2-54) eventually dismissed Holmes (34) as Acomb slipped to 98-7. Will White staged an impressive recovery with some powerful batting, which included 3 huge sixes, and he added 53 for the eighth wicket with Jack Delves. Alex Bowden did end the partnership when he bowled Delves with the total on 151 but White (54*) guided Acomb home in the 44th over. Selby did pick up four bowling points which keeps them in sixth place and they travel to Clifton Alliance II on Saturday.

Yorkshire Premier League North Division Two Ebor

Selby II 48 all out, Scholes I 51-1

Selby second team had another tough afternoon in Division Two when they travelled to Scholes and went down to a nine wicket defeat after being bowled out for a low score.

Batting first Selby lost early wickets and never really recovered with Fiaz Muhammed (3-10) and Haq Nawaz (4-12) doing the damage. Luke Bezins finished unbeaten on 12 as the visitors were bowled out in the 24th over for just 48.

Chasing the small total the Leeds side were soon on top with an opening partnership of 33 between Ismail Pacha and Kashif Afridi. Luke Berzins did grab a wicket when he trapped Pacha (20) leg before but Afridi (15*) and Adil Hussain (10*) comfortably knocked off the runs in the 11th over. Selby are now in eighth place and they are at home to Sherburn Eversley I on Saturday.

Yorkshire Premier League North Division Four Ebor

Selby I 213-9, Thorp Arch & Boston Spa II 170 all out

Selby third team had a better afternoon in Division Four when they picked up a 43 run win against Thorp Arch & Boston Spa II at Sandhill Lane.

The visitors won the toss and asked Selby to bat first and they made a good start thanks to openers Steve Sherwood (27) and Isaac Leung. All the early batsmen chipped in with useful scores and provided good support for Leung who was eventually bowled by Toby Wells for 55. Martyn Rhodes (21), Ian Huddlestone (21) and Gareth Harvey (31) kept the home side on top despite a good spell from Jacob Brickell (5-64). Selby closed on a useful 213-9 from their 40 overs.

In reply Thorp Arch lost an early wicket when Martyn Rhodes had Bertie Mittra caught by Aidan Pearce but a second wicket partnership of 109 between Chris Binnie and Toby Wells meant Selby had to work hard. Toby Settle (2-9) made the breakthrough when he trapped Wells (69) leg before and he later bowled Binnie (43) as the visitors run chase began to fade. Spencer Guy (3-41) and Isaac Leung (3-38) kept up the pressure as Thorp Arch slipped to 170 all out in the 35th over. The win lifts Selby up to seventh in the table and they travel to Scarcroft II on Saturday.

Sunday Vale Division One

Selby IV 167 all out, Dunnington IV 126 all out

A good all round team performance earned Selby fourth team a comfortable 41 run win against Dunnington IV on Sunday at Sandhill Lane.

Batting first Selby did lose an early wicket but Alfie Harper and Sam Easthill quickly added 49 for the second wicket before Ashton Rhodes had Harper caught in the slips for a stylish 40. Easthill kept the runs flowing and he received good support from John Plews (12). Evan Rhodes (3-31) slowed down the run rate and he eventually had Easthill caught in the deep for exactly 50. Useful late runs were added by Bilal Irshad (14) and Seth Wratten (16) as Selby were bowled out for 167 in the 33rd over.

In reply the visitors found run scoring difficult against tight bowling from Darren Hunter (3-22) and Toby Settle (2-29) as Dunnington lost wickets as they tried to increase the run rate. Alfie Harper also picked up a wicket in another accurate spell and the only real resistance came from Nihal Sharma who kept the York side in the game with a defiant 54. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 126 in the 38th over with spinner Seth Wratten taking 3-33.
