Yorkshire Premier League North Championship West
Selby I 115, Sessay II 116-8
Selby first teams losing run continued on Saturday but a good bowling and fielding performance saw them almost pull off a win after a disappointing batting display.
Batting first after winning the toss Selby had an early shock when Matt Hoyle was bowled by Lee Margerison with the first ball of the innings. The bad start continued when James Clements-Byrne had Alex Bowden caught by Dom Atkinson to leave the home side on 27-2. Rob Scarr and Joe Bugg steadied things for a while but Durham Ladies player Trudy Johnson produced an impressive spell of bowling as she took 3-15 from her seven overs, including the wickets of Scarr (22) and Bugg (30). Wickets then fell at regular intervals with Margerison (3-43) and Dom Atkinson (3-17) doing the damage as Selby stumbled to 115 all out in the 32nd over.
The visitors made a quick start to their reply with Dave Johnson and Ferdinand Rex putting on 27 for the first wicket before pace bowler Luyanda Gasa made the breakthrough when he trapped Rex (12) leg before in the fourth over. Trudy Johnson joined Dave Johnson and they added 20 for the second wicket before skipper Alex Bowden joined the attack to have Dave Johnson (20) caught and bowled. Sessay progressed steadily to 61-2 but when Luyanda Gasa had Trudy Johnson (19) caught by Matt Hoyle it sparked a middle order collapse. More wickets for Bowden (3-25) and Luyanda Gasa (4-42) saw the visitors slump to 73-7 and a tight finish loomed. James Clements- Byrne and Luke Burnett rescued things for Sessay and an eighth wicket partnership of 37 put them back in control. There was a late wicket for Rob Peet when he bowled Burnett (10) but Clements-Byrne (30*) and Louis Luck (2*) guided Sessay home in the 36th over. The good bowling performance saw Selby pick up four points which lifts them off the bottom of the table. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Streamline Taxis and Selby travel to league leaders Sheriff Hutton Bridge II on Saturday and South Milford are the visitors to Sandhill Lane on Bank Holiday Monday.

Wickets for Kayden Lane (3-29) saw Castleford slip to 62-4 but they did recover thanks to a fifth wicket partnership of 53 from Dylan Tudge (25) and Andrew Lund (35). Spinner Alex Langhan ended the partnership and his spell of 4-56 from his 12 overs helped to restrict the West Yorkshire side to 164-9 at the close.

Sam Mason (12) and Luke Berzins (27) got the innings back on track but wickets for Dylan Tudge (2-24) and Tristan Pearson (2-29) kept Castleford just on top. . Yorkshire Premier League North Division Four (Ebor)
Burn II 223-3, Selby III 226-6
Selby third team were involved in a local derby on Saturday when they travelled the short distance to Burn II and picked up a four wicket win in a high scoring game.
Skipper Isaac Leung won the toss and opted to bowl first and the Selby bowlers and fielders had to work hard on a day which went on to be dominated by the batsmen. An opening partnership of 58 from Leigh Adamson and Vaughan Lindley was ended by Alfie Harper when he bowled Adamson (47) in the 10th over. Darren Hunter trapped Lindley (16) leg before in the 15th over but the innings then revolved around Luke Trevaskiss who had good support from Jonny Adamson (30) and Charlie Elliott (15*). Trevaskiss fired 11 fours and 3 sixes in his unbeaten 85 as Burn closed on 223-3 from their 40 overs.
The Selby reply started badly when Andy Stephenson had Steve Sherwood caught by Ashley Abbott with the first ball of the innings. Gareth Pearce hit a couple of boundaries before he was dismissed by Sam Jones to leave the visitors on 9-2. Stan Bugg and Alex Hornostaj then re-built the innings as they both batted stylishly and they gradually got on top of the bowling and they added 104 for the third wicket before Ashley Abbott had Bugg (59) caught by Vaughan Lindley. Darren Hunter joined Hornostaj and they kept the scoreboard ticking over but Toby Taperell (2-28) eventually had Hornsostaj (39) caught behind. Ashley Abbott (2-36) bowled Hunter (24) but Isaac Leung then took control and with valuable support from Alfie Laverack (15) and James Thackray (18*) he steered Selby home in the 39th over as he finished unbeaten on 42. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Roger Philpot and the third team are at home to Church Fenton II on Saturday.

Bailey continued to bat well and with the total on 83-1 the game looked to be over as a contest but Brownlie (2-26) struck again to bowl Lee Dobbins. Sam Easthill then took two wickets in two balls, including Bailey (30), thanks to smart catches from Senitha Ruhunuge as the game burst into life.
