Yorkshire Premier League North Championship West
Selby I 144 Osbaldwick 149-3
Selby first team had another difficult afternoon in the Championship on Saturday when they travelled to Osbaldwick and went down to a seven wicket defeat.
Batting first after winning the toss Selby lost early wickets with Alfie Oliver (5-37) and Joseph Privett doing the damage with the York side holding on to some smart catches especially in the slip cordon. The visitors struggled to 43-5 despite a solid 18 from Harry Huddlestone and an early finish loomed but Oliver Steward and Luke Berzins staged an impressive recovery. Steward and Berzins worked hard to blunt the Osbaldwick attack and they added 79 for the sixth wicket before spinner James Calvert eventually had Steward caught and bowled for a gritty 23. Luke Berzins registered his first half century of the season but he became another victim for Calvert (2-19) when he was caught by Joseph Privett for exactly 50. Selby were eventually bowled out for 144 in the 49th over.
Osbaldwick openers Steve Peart and Sam Croft gave them a solid start but with the total on 27 pace bowler Luyanda Gasa made the breakthrough when he had Croft caught by Joe Bugg. Jamie Middleton then bowled Peart (16) and when he caught and bowled Harvey Jackson (19) the York side were reduced to 50-3. Middleton kept things tight when he finished with 2-20 from his 13 overs but Johnny Rawsthorne and former Selby player Harvey Johnson gradually increased the run rate. Rawsthorne hit 9 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten 70 and Johnson finished unbeaten on 27 as the home side knocked the runs off in the 32nd over. Selby finish their season on Saturday when Studley Royal are the visitors to Sandhill Lane.
