Malton I 238 all out, Selby I 239-4
Selby first team moved up to fifth in the table with a six wicket win over Malton at Sandhill Lane with Corey Paull hitting his third century of the season.
Before the game the club held a minutes silence in memory of Whitley Bridge cricketer Ben White who died tragically in an accident last week. Ben’s brother Iwan plays for Selby CC and Ben did play for the fourth team a couple of years ago. The club's thoughts are with Ben’s family and friends.
Malton won the toss and elected to bat first and they struggled to score runs early on with tight spells from Jamie Middleton and Rhys Roddick. Middleton took an early wicket when he bowled Shaun Harland and shortly after he had Richard Malthouse caught in the gully by Lee Wild. Rhys Roddick conceded just 7 runs from his 6 overs and Wild kept up the pressure when he had Alex Machen caught behind by Corey Paull to reduce Malton to 33-3. Opener Charlie Allott and skipper Matt Turnbull steadied things for the visitors and they both batted solidly in a fourth wicket partnership of 137 which was ended by spinner Subhoda Premarathne when he bowled Turnbull (55) in the 42nd over. Charlie Baird (2-43) picked up a couple of wickets as Selby fought back and Premarathne eventually had Allott (86) caught by Jamie Middleton. Premarathne quickly removed the tail to finish with 5-56 as Malton were bowled out for 238 in the last of their 50 overs.
In reply Selby lost an early wicket when Adam Durrant had Matt Hoyle caught by Sharrad Jessani but Rob Peet and Corey Paull then took the total to 41 before Peet (17) was bowled by Matthew Webster (2-41). The innings then revolved around the in form Paull who was soon scoring quickly which included 3 sixes in a row in an over from spinner Jessani, but Selby did lose another wicket with the total on 86 when Joe Bugg was caught by Luke Smith. Jack Huddlestone then provided Paull with great support and excellent running between the wickets helped the home side get on top. A fourth wicket partnership of 81 was ended by Adam Spaven when he had Huddlestone (35) caught by Richard Malthouse in the 38th over. Kayden Lane then played the supporting role as Paull continued to pepper the boundary with some big hitting. Paull fired 8 fours and 8 sixes in his superb unbeaten 146 and Lane was unbeaten on 21 and they enabled Selby to reach the victory target in the 47th over.
