Selby first team returned to winning ways on Saturday with a nine wicket demolition of bottom of the table North Cave Coal Exporters at Sandhill Lane.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first and they struggled to score runs from the start with tight spells from Jamie Middleton and Stan Bugg. The early breakthrough came in the first over when Middleton trapped James Barker leg before and wickets began to tumble on a regular basis with Middleton going on to take 4-35 from his 13 overs. Lee Wild (4-16) kept up the pressure as North Cave never recovered from the bad start with only Danesh Ravi Latha (14) providing any resistance. Spinner Subhoda Premarathne also picked up a couple of wickets as the visitors were bowled out for only 68 in the 30th over.

Chasing the small total Selby openers Layton Hallam and Corey Paull were soon scoring quickly but they did lose a wicket with the score on 28 when Ravi Latha had Hallam (18) caught by Henry Green. Corey Paull then ensured a very early finish in only the eighth over as he raced to an unbeaten 31 which means he is now the current leading run scorer in the YPLN with 825 runs. Yorkshire Premier League North Division Two Ebor

Goole Town II 204 all out, Selby II 104 all out

Selby second team’s revival in Division Two came to an end at Goole II when they went down to a 100 run defeat.

The home side batted first and there was a dramatic start to the game when Luke Berzins bowled Sam Coppin with his second ball and he then bowled Neil Foster with his next ball but Rob Jacobs survived the hat trick ball. Berzins struck again in his next over when he bowled Jacobs to reduce Goole to 12-3 but opener Paul Everett and Jacob Kennedy re-built the innings. A fourth wicket partnership of 82 was eventually ended by Berzins (4-33) when he bowled Kennedy (36) but Everett continued to hold the innings together and he had good support from Will O’Donnell (10) and Jack Everett (17). Joe Bugg returned to the attack to bowl Paul Everett who hit 14 boundaries in his vital 73 and skipper Graham Phillips (3-21) mopped up the tail as the home side were bowled out for 204 in the 40th over.

In reply Selby openers Graham Phillips and Harry Huddlestone quickly took the score to 20 but James Kerr made the breakthrough when he had Huddlestone (14) caught by Neil Foster. Jack Knowles then put the home side in control with a great spell of 5-20 from his 12 overs including the wicket of Phillips. Joe Bugg (14) and Alex Hornostaj (13) both made good starts and Alfie Harper (23) held up the Goole attack with some good batting. Yorkshire Premier League North Division Four Ebor

Church Fenton II 221-8, Selby III 105 all out

It was a tough afternoon for a young Selby third team when they travelled to promotion chasing Church Fenton II and went down to a 116 run defeat.

Batting first after winning the toss the home side made a good start with Stuart Bell and Finlay Walton putting on 36 for the first wicket before Martyn Rhodes trapped Walton leg before. Stuart Bell went on to dominate the innings and he added 56 for the second wicket with skipper Stephen Bell (36). There was a tidy spell from Dylan Davies (2-26) but Stuart Bell hit 9 fours and 2 sixes before Isaac Leung had him caught behind by Gareth Harvey for 75. Rob Lancaster (32) kept Church Fenton on top until he became another victim for spinner Leung who went on to take 4-29 from his 10 over spell. Josh Colley also picked up a wicket but the home side closed on 221-8 from their 40 overs.

In reply Steve Sherwood and Isaac Leung added 28 for the first wicket but after Sherwood (15) was bowled by Joseph Moorhouse wickets began to fall on a regular basis. Dan Catterall (16), Spencer Guy (14) and Chris Harkin (17) all worked hard but Stephen Bell took 3-19 as Selby slipped to 104 all out in the 26th over. Selby travel to Escrick Park on Saturday to play Ben Johnson.

Sunday Vale Division One

South Milford III 166 all out, Selby IV 116 all out

Selby fourth team were in action on Sunday but they went down to a 50 run defeat to local rivals South Milford III at Sandhill Lane.

Batting first after winning the toss South Milford lost early wickets and they struggled to 41-4 with Darren Hunter taking 2-46. Billy Eastwood and Andrew Hudson got the innings back on track with a fifth wicket partnership of 57 which was ended by Alfie Laverack when he bowled Hudson (27) in the 22nd over. Seth Wratten bowled well to take 4-44 but Eastwood finished unbeaten on 73 as South Milford were bowled out for 166 in the 34th over.

There was a bad start to the Selby reply when Charlie Ransome had Alex Kirk caught by Andrew Hudson in the first over. Alfie Harper and James Stead gradually recovered the situation in a second wicket partnership of 42 but after Ransome (2-21) bowled Stead (9) the visitors began to get on top. Alfie Harper (28) was eventually bowled by Olly Bird (2-20) who also dismissed Chris Moore (13). There was some late big hitting from Alfie Laverack (33) but Max Hudson took 3-12 as Selby were bowled out for 116 in the 30th over. Selby travel to Sheriff Hutton Bridge on Sunday.
