Selby first team ended their losing run in fine style with a ten wicket demolition of Clifton Alliance II which featured a remarkable nine wicket bowling performance from Jamie Middleton

Skipper Alex Bowden won the vital toss on an overcast afternoon and asked the home side to bat first. There was no hint of the drama to come when openers Anthony Malouf and Alistair Wray took the total to 10 but Jamie Middleton struck in the third over when he had Malouf caught by Matt Hoyle. In the fifth over Middleton dismissed Wray leg before and it then became a procession as the York side collapsed with more wickets for seam bowler Middleton. There was a neat stumping and a catch by wicket keeper Darrell Guy and further catches for Matt Hoyle and Corey Paull as Clifton slumped to 36-9. The home side were bowled out for just 38 when spinner Subhoda Premarathne took the final wicket when he trapped Alex Morphet leg before leaving Jamie Middleton with club record figures of 9 wickets for just 8 runs from his ten overs

The teams turned straight round but only two balls were possible before heavy rain forced the teams off and tea was taken. There was another rain delay but when play eventually resumed Selby openers Alex Bowden (25*) and Corey Paull (14*) wasted no time knocking the runs off in just the fourth over. Selby are at home on Saturday in a local derby when Drax are the visitors to Sandhill Lane.

Sherburn Eversley I 221-8, Selby II 200 all out

Selby second team produced a much improved batting performance in Division Two but they went down to a 21 run defeat to Sherburn Eversley I at Sandhill Lane in a game reduced to 42 overs per side due to rain.

Batting first Sherburn made a solid start with an opening partnership of 47 between Vince Waddelove and Jai Mistry which was ended by Nathan Dye when he trapped Mistry (12) leg before in the 13th over. David Newham joined Waddelove to add 46 for the second wicket before spinner Spencer Guy had Newham (21) caught by Scott Smith. Alfie Harper (2-24) eventually bowled Waddelove (55) and more wickets for Harper and Guy saw the visitors slip to 107-5. Sherburn recovered thanks to a sixth wicket partnership of 93 from Hamza Sadiq and Ahmed Ibrahim which was eventually ended by skipper Graham Phillips when he bowled Sadiq (46) and he then had Ibrahim (42) stumped by Gareth Harvey. The visitors closed on a useful 221-8 with Phillips finishing with 3-37.

Selby made a quick start to their reply with an opening partnership of 55 between Graham Phillips and Gareth Pearce which was ended by David Newham when he bowled Pearce (13) in the 8th over. Adam Wilkinson (2-30) bowled Phillips (38) in the 11th over and useful knocks from Alfie Harper (11) and Chris Harkin (18) kept the scoreboard ticking over but a good spell from Dave Newham (5-31) put the visitors on top as Selby slipped to 112-7. The big hitting Scott Smith then kept Selby in the game in the gathering gloom when he smashed 4 fours and 4 big sixes before he was bowled by Tom Brook (2-60) for a powerful 63. Selby were dismissed for exactly 200 in the 41st over which earned them four batting points and they travel to Hillam & Monk Fryston I on Saturday.

The third team game at Scarcroft II was abandoned with no play possible due to rain and they return to action on Saturday when they travel to Hensall II.
