big win for third team

Yorkshire Premier League North Championship Central

Acomb II I 236-9 Selby I 239-5

Selby first team continue to climb the table after a five wicket win at Acomb II with Corey Paull again batting impressively.

The morning rain meant a delayed start which reduced the game to 46 overs per side and the York side decided to bat first after winning the toss and they made a quick start with the experienced Andy Tute (18) firing four boundaries before Tom Shepherd had him caught behind by Corey Paull. The innings was then dominated by Curtis Holmes who had good support from Martin Pepper and they added 41 for the second wicket before Jamie Middleton had Pepper (11) caught by Matt Hoyle. Leon Sacks joined Holmes and they gradually got on top of the bowling in a third wicket partnership of 121 but the introduction of Rob Peet to the attack made the vital breakthrough when he caught and bowled Holmes (79) in his first over. The home side looked set for a big total but Shepherd (4-69) had Sacks (75) caught by Harry Huddlestone and more wickets for Peet (4-23) helped to restrict Acomb to 236-9 at the close.

In reply Selby made a good start with an opening partnership of 48 from Matt Hoyle (29) and Rob Peet (20) but spinner Isaac Tute dismissed them both to reduce the visitors to 52-2 in the 13th over. Corey Paull once again was in top form and with great support from Joe Bugg the visitors began to get on top but a third wicket partnership of 86 was ended when Bugg was run out for 30. Paull continued to bat impressively and he looked set for another century but he was bowled by Jack Matthews for 91, which included 10 fours and a six. Harry Huddlestone (24*) and Kayden Lane (22*) ensured there were no further problems as Selby reached the victory target in the 41st over. Yorkshire Premier League North Division Two Ebor

The second team game against Scholes was a victim of the rain and they return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ledsham.

Yorkshire Premier League North Division Four Ebor

Selby III 276-6, Thorp Arch & Boston Spa II 134 all out.

The third team bounced back from last weeks defeat with a massive 142 run win at Thorp Arch & Boston Spa II.

The home side won the toss and asked Selby to bat first and openers Steve Sherwood and Isaac Leung gave them the perfect start with a huge first wicket partnership of 127. Leung stroked 14 boundaries before he was trapped leg before by Bertie Mittra for 75. Sam Mason (18) gave Sherwood good support who was eventually run out for 64 but Alex Hornostaj (40) and Chris Harkin (48) kept the runs flowing, Thorp Arch used eight different bowlers but it wasn’t enough to prevent the visitors reaching a massive 276-6 from their 40 overs.

Chasing the big total the home side were soon losing wickets and they struggled to 56-6 with good spells from Alfie Laverack (4-36) and Toby Settle (2-13) doing the damage. Darren Hunter (2-28) kept up the pressure and only a late blast from skipper Andrew Jones (47) lifted Thorp Arch to 134 all out in the 26th over. Sunday Vale Division One

Carlton Towers III 203-9, Selby IV 196 all out

Selby fourth team travelled to Carlton Towers III on Sunday and went down to a narrow seven run defeat in a thrilling game.

Batting first the home side lost an early wicket when Stan Bugg had James Copeland caught by Alfie Harper but they soon recovered with Fin Robinson and Richard Gomersall putting on 79 for the second wicket. Skipper Sam Easthill ended the partnership when he bowled Robinson (39) and Alfie Harper eventually had Gomersall (58) caught behind by James Stead. There were useful contributions from Joshua Nickerson (13) and Aaron Niezen (22) but a tidy spell from Bilal Irshad (3-20) restricted Carlton to 203-9 at the close.

In reply Selby also lost an early wicket but Alex Kirk and Alex Hornostaj (33) got the innings back on track. Alex Kirk was batting well until Noah Nutbrown had him caught for 46 but James Stead kept up the run chase with a sylish 37. Stan Bugg (18) and Bilal Irshad looked to be steering the visitors home but a three wicket blast from Mike Barnett (3-9) sparked a late collapse. Richard Gomersall (2-26) took the final wicket as Selby were bowled out for 196 in the 32nd over with Bilal Irshad left unbeaten on 20. Thanks go to match ball sponsor Nick & Sam Brown and Selby are at home to Clifton Alliance IV on Sunday.
