Drax skipper Steve Smith won the toss and asked Selby to bat first and it looked like a good decision as wickets were soon falling. In the first over pace bowler Tilron Harry had Matt Hoyle caught behind by Tom Longhurst and in the next over Craig Piggott bowled Layton Hallam to leave the home side on 6-2. The situation got worse for Selby in the sixth over when Craig Piggott (2-38) bowled Corey Paull reducing them to 28-3 but skipper Alex Bowden and Kayden Lane steading things in a vital fourth wicket partnership of 96. Ahmad Mian made the breakthrough for the visitors when he bowled Lane (45) in the 31st over and Tilron Harry (3-55) rejoined the attack to bowl Alex Bowden for a crucial 70, which included 9 fours and a six. Joe Bugg (29) and Lee Wild (22) kept the scoreboard ticking over but late wickets for Kieron Smith (3-12) saw the home side bowled out for 227 in the 49th over.

In reply Drax made a steady start with an opening partnership of 21 between Lewis Thomas and Henry Parker which was ended by Jamie Middleton when he trapped Parker leg before in the fifth over. Madhu Muddiyavar joined Thomas and they added 46 for the second wicket before Selby struck back when Alex Bowden had Muddiyavar caught behind by Corey Paull and Lee Wild then had Thomas (39) caught by Kayden Lane to leave them on 67-3. The innings then revolved around Craig Piggott and Tilron Harry who set up a close finish with a fourth wicket partnership of 68 which was ended by Lee Wild (2-48) when he had Craig Piggott (46) caught by Subhoda Premarathne. Tilron Harry continued to bat well but wickets at the other end for spinner Subhoda Premarathne and Rhys Roddick kept the game in the balance, including a great catch from Matt Hoyle but Premarathne eventually had Tilron Harry (46) caught at long off by Alex Bowden in the 44th over. Steve Smith (12) looked to be guiding Drax home but he became another victim for Premarathne (4-31) when he was caught in the deep by Kayden Lane and Rhys Roddick (2-39) wrapped the game up in the 47th over when Ahmad Mian was expertly caught by Alex Bowden to leave Drax all out for 212. Yorkshire Premier League North Division Two Ebor

Hillam & Monk Fryston I 188 all out, Selby II 98 all out

It was another tough afternoon for Selby second team in Division Two when they travelled to Hillam & Monk Fryston and went down to a 90 run defeat.

Batting first after winning the toss the early part of the Hillam innings revolved around opener Ady Johnson who had good support from Rob Edwards (17) and Scott Fawcett (29) after losing a couple of early wickets. Johnson hit 8 fours and 2 sixes before he was bowled by Sam Dunn who went on to take 5-44 from his 12 over spell. There were useful knocks from Dave Venables (25) and Damo Elliott (13) but a tidy spell from Alfie Harper (3-20) saw the home side bowled out for 188 in the 40th over.

The Selby reply got off to a bad start with Will Vaks (3-40) and Ady Johnson (3-16) doing the early damage as the visitors crashed to 57-6 with only opener Graham Phillips (30) providing any resistance. Sam Dunn (20) did hold up the Hillam attack but Dave Venables (3-31) kept the home side on top as Selby were bowled out for 98 in the 28th over. Hensall II 115, Selby III 119-5

Selby third team’s revival in Division Four continued on Saturday when they picked up a five wicket win at Hensall II.

Skipper Isaac Leung won the toss and asked the home side to bat first and they made a good start with an opening partnership of 34 between Jacob Woodward (11) and Zac Thornton (23). Martyn Rhodes dismissed both openers and wickets began to fall with Rhodes going on to take 5-26 from his 10 overs. There were useful contributions from Lewis Webster (12) and Chloe Thornton (17) but good spells from Toby Settle (2-10) and Isaac Leung (3-18) saw Hensall bowled out for 115 in the 38th over.

In reply the visitors made a decent start with an opening partnership of 26 between Steve Sherwood and Isaac Leung (17) but a couple of quick wickets from Jacob Woodward (2-27) reduced them to 26-2. Sherwood and Alex Hornostaj put Selby back in control with a third wicket partnership of 58 before Sherwood was run out for 33. Molly Kirton (2-29) bowled well for the home side but Alex Hornostaj (47*) with support from Spencer Guy (14) comfortably steered Selby home in the 27th over. Selby complete their season on Saturday when they play Pocklington III at Cawood.

York Vale Sunday League

Selby IV 87 all out, Osbaldwick III 89-6

Selby fourth team returned to action on Sunday when they travelled to Osbaldwick III but they went down to a four wicket defeat in a low scoring game.

Asked to bat first after losing the toss the visitors lost early wickets with Dom Parry (3-21) doing the damage as Selby struggled 27-4. Skipper Sam Easthill held the innings together and he added 46 for the fifth wicket with good support from Ollie Kierans (10). Matt Oates ended the revival when he bowled Easthill (44) in the 23rd over and his spell of 3-7 saw Selby bowled out for 87 in the 33rd over.

Chasing the small total the York side quickly crashed to 7-4 with wickets for Sam Easthill (2-37) and Toby Settle (2-25). Osbaldwick opener Robin Wilson (40) batted powerfully and with good support from Liam Jackson they added 60 for the fifth wicket. Dan Catterall ended the partnership when he bowled Jackson (23) and Wilson (40) was eventually run out by Dylan Parkes but Dom Parry (19*) steered Osbaldwick home in the 12th over. Selby did pick up two bowling points and they play Pickering III in their last game of the season.
