Selby first team’s winning run in Division Two came to an end when they slumped to a 32 run defeat to local rivals Hemingbrough in a low scoring game at Sandhill Lane.

Skipper Matt Hoyle won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first and they were soon in trouble with early wickets for Jamie Middleton and Luke Berzins (1-15) reducing them to 11-3. Layton Hallam and Glen Crouch then added 28 for the fourth wicket before Middleton (3-26) had Crouch caught by Berzins for 14. Matty Clark joined Hallam and they continued the recovery with a vital fifth wicket partnership of 66 which was ended by the spin of Alex Langhan when he had Clark caught by Isaac Leung for 39. Hallam continued to hold the innings together but Langhan was again on form and he went on to take 4-27, including the wicket of Hallam (46) as the visitors were bowled out in the 42nd over for 123.

In reply Selby also lost early wickets when Aidan Coulbeck had Matt Hoyle caught by Jamie Pickles and Tom Shepherd (2-23) bowled Lee Wild to leave the home side on 15-2. Mark Hope and Isaac Leung both batted well and they got the innings back on track with a third wicket partnership of 44 but Shepherd captured the vital wicket of Hope (31) to swing the game back to the visitors. Andy Rowley joined the attack to have Leung caught for 18 and he worked his way through the rest of the Selby innings. Darrell Guy (14) kept the home side in the game but Rowley finished with the fine figures of 5-14 from his eight overs as Selby were bowled out for 91 in the 40th over.
