There was a run feast at Burn in Division Four when Selby second team had to chase a big total but they secured a draw after some solid batting from the visitors.

Batting first after winning the toss Burn openers Andrew Wilson and Scott Haigh were soon scoring quickly and they built the platform for a good total. Mark Redshaw made the breakthrough when he bowled Haigh for 26 but the runs continued to flow when Ben Steward joined Wilson at the crease. The Selby bowlers and fielders had to work hard and Zac Buttle eventually bowled Wilson for an impressive 108. There was no respite for the visitors as Steward (76 n.o.) and Ed Clarke (69 n.o.) enabled Burn to close on a massive 306-2.

In reply Selby lost skipper Graham Phillips with the total on 21 when Matt Smith had him caught by Ed Clarke. Oliver Steward and Steve Sherwood added 23 for the second wicket before Matt Smith (2-27) struck again to trap Sherwood leg before. Chris Harkin joined opener Steward and they both frustrated the Burn attack with some fine batting. The home side used nine different bowlers in an effort to break the partnership but a third wicket partnership of 131 ensured a draw for the visitors. Harkin eventually fell just before the close for a classy 69, which included 13 fours and a six and Steward fired 15 boundaries in his patient unbeaten 79. Burn collect 24 points and Selby 6 points from the draw and they play Woodhouse Grange IV at Sandhill Lane on Saturday.
