In Division Four Selby second team went down to a seven wicket defeat to Saxton II after posting a decent total to chase at Sandhill Lane.

Batting first after winning the toss Selby made a quick start with Graham Phillips (14) and Steve Sherwood putting 45 on for the first wicket with Sherwood firing a rapid 30 before he was bowled by Prakash Veerasamy. The run rate slowed down with tight bowling from Veerasamy (3-31) and Sai Muramreddy reducing the home side to 56-3. Chris Harkin and Sam Mason (17) got the innings back on track with a fourth wicket partnership of exactly 50 and the innings then revolved around Harkin who got further support from Sam Easthill (11). Useful late runs were added by Nathan Dye (14 n.o.) and Harkin finished unbeaten on 63 as Selby closed on 170-7 from their 45 overs.

In reply Saxton made a good start as the Selby bowlers were unable to make an early breakthrough and openers David Smith and Jalandhar Veerepalli added 66 for the first wicket. Sam Easthill ended the partnership when he bowled Smith (29) but Praveen Yalavarthi joined Veerepalli and they kept the visitors on top with some good batting. The Selby bowlers and fielders had to work hard as Saxton closed in on victory but a second wicket partnership of 88 was ended in unusual fashion when Yalavarthi (40) was given out hit the ball twice. A late wicket for Mark Redshaw slowed down the run rate but Veerapalli finished unbeaten on 72 as Saxton reached the victory target in the 44th over. Selby are at home to Long Marston I on Saturday.
