Selby third team had a tough afternoon at Bolton Percy III on Sunday when they had to chase a big total and went down to a 189 run defeat.

The home side won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first and they made a good start with Duncan Sanford and Krishnan Parmar putting on 83 for the first wicket before Jack Huddlestone had Parmar (29) stumped by brother Harry. Mike Thorpe then had Harry Nicholls neatly caught by Stuart Dearnley but Ben McWalter then joined Sanford and they soon put the home side on top. The experienced Sanford eventually retired on 101 but the talented young batsman McWalter continued to punish any loose bowling. The Selby bowlers and fielders had to work hard as McWalter fired 17 fours and 2 sixes before he retired on 103 and he enabled Bolton Percy to close on a massive 269-3.

Chasing the big total Selby made a bad start as they were soon reduced to 8-3. There was some spirited resistance from Stuart Dearnley (13) and Steve Gray (11) but Tom Pears (4-20), Harry Nicholls (2-19) and Krishnan Parmar (2-4) kept the home side well in control. The last pair of Mike Thorpe (16) and Dan Mcloughlin (3 n.o.) ensured Selby salvaged a batting point as they were bowled out for 80 in the 28th over. Selby are at home to Thorpe Willoughby II on Saturday.
