After weeks of delay the 2021 season finally got underway for the youngest members of our local two teams. Both sides arrived at Fisphpond Field full of energy ready to take on the world, it was nice to see boys and girls representing both clubs and all eager to enjoy our beautiful game.

Selby CC were taking to the field for the first time, as their 4 previous games had been called off for a mixture of kayaking weather in May and teams pulling out of the league, so the team arriving at Carlton were all competitive game debutants! You wouldn’t have noticed this with an outstanding all-round display throughout.

Bowling first, Selby bowled straight only conceding 12 wides, a further 5 runs from scoring shots and taking 11 wickets, they restricted Carlton to 33 for 11 off 16 overs.

On top of the amazing bowling, there was 5 run outs from Selby including an amazing effort from Seth Wratten - who threw down the stumps from square leg with only one stump to aim at, his torpedo like throw sent the crowd into raptures of applause.

Selby didn’t let their foot of the gas in the second innings – arriving at the crease already with 55 on the board from their 11 wickets, Selby continued to add to their total with some fine stroke making. They scored 48 runs off the bat, receiving a further 73 runs in extras they ran out convincing winners. They only lost 4 wickets in the innings showing not only great composure but ability to keep out the good ball!

They move onto the rearranged Percy Lane Cup fixture against Whitley Bridge U11 on Thursday 3rd June – there is an eagerness to do well as Selby won the competition in 2019 before COVID prevented any competitive fixtures last year.
The whole club is supporting them and is excited to see more cricket from this fantastic u11 side!
