Selby CC Under 15s progressed to the next round of the Alison Trophy with an impressive 124-run victory away at South Kirkby on Tuesday evening.

Selby CC Under 15s progressed to the next round of the Alison Trophy with an impressive 124-run victory away at South Kirkby on Tuesday evening.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Selby recovered well from the early loss of Joshua Williams, who was unfortunately caught and bowled by Thomas Edwards for 8. From that point, the visitors built an outstanding partnership through Stan Bugg and captain Alfie Harper, who combined disciplined shot selection with increasing aggression as the innings developed.
Both batters reached deserved half-centuries, rotating the strike cleverly before punishing anything loose. Bugg struck an excellent 70 from 59 balls, including several boundaries and a six, before eventually being run out late in the innings. Harper remained unbeaten on 72 and anchored the innings superbly from start to finish, accelerating particularly well in the closing overs as Selby posted an imposing 168-2 from their 20 overs.
South Kirkby’s bowlers worked hard throughout, with Thomas Edwards claiming the breakthrough wicket and Harry Travis producing a tidy spell during the closing overs despite the late scoring surge.
Facing a challenging chase, South Kirkby found runs difficult to come by against a disciplined Selby bowling and fielding performance. Joshua Colley made an early impact with two wickets, including the key dismissal of opener Thomas Edwards, while Andrew Flockhart, Ollie Kierans and Oliver Manning also chipped in with wickets as Selby steadily tightened their grip on the game.
Edward Travis showed resilience for South Kirkby with a patient stay at the crease, while Jack Warren battled hard late in the innings with an unbeaten contribution that included a boundary. However, regular wickets and accurate bowling restricted the hosts to 44-6 from their 20 overs.
Selby’s all-round display — combining strong batting, economical bowling and sharp fielding — secured a convincing victory and a place in the next round, while South Kirkby continued to compete positively throughout against a strong visiting side.
